This time of year is marked by much celebration. On November 8th a new president is elected. November 24th is Thanksgiving Day. November 11th we honor our Veterans. November 17th is National UnFriend Day (NUD). In case you don’t know what NUD is, it is an unofficial holiday designed to promote unfriending other Facebook users that are not true friends. All of these dates, except maybe November 17th, are a time of to remember and honor all that you are thankful for in our country. Freedom is part of the beauty of our country. At New York Facial Paralysis we are thankful for the diagnostic testing we have available to us to help you with your facial paralysis. Some diagnostic testing options that can be used to determine your facial paralysis include:
- Audiogram- is a graph showing the results of pure-tone hearing tests. It illustrates the type, degree, and configuration of hearing loss.
- Electrical Testing- electromyography (EMG) measures muscle response or electrical activity in response to a nerve’s stimulation of the muscle. The test is used to help detect neuromuscular abnormalities.
- Electroneurography- (ENOG) compares the neurophysiologic response of the normal side of the abnormal side in order to help determine whether surgical intervention is recommended, and to determine the probable prognosis with regards to the clinical presentation and case history.
- Radiographic: CT or MRI– CT scans primarily look at the soft tissues of the body and various organs. MRIs are used to detect diseases or abnormalities throughout the body, such as brain aneurysms or tumors, but also are often used as a “second look” if other imaging scans provide inconclusive results.
At New York Facial Paralysis we celebrate you, and all of the ways we can help you with all of your facial paralysis needs.
